Is the tap water safe to drink in Czechia?

Yes. WHO and UNICEF put safely managed drinking water in Czechia at 98.1% for 2024, and 99.9% of people had water free from contamination.

98.1%
of people in Czechia had safely managed drinking water at home in 2024 WHO/UNICEF: from a protected source, at home, available when needed and free from contamination.

What the official figures say

Hardness and taste depend on where the water comes from. Prague, for instance, is supplied by three treatment works, Želivka, Káraný and Podolí, and the city utility lists the hardness of each one's water separately.

Why a public tap can still be different

A fountain that hasn't been used for a while holds water that has been standing in the pipe, and a pump in a village square may draw on a well rather than the mains.

Check the tap, then tell the next person

Let a fountain run for a moment and check the spout before drinking. If it's working and clean, add it to Fontavio or review it, which also lets others know it's switched on.
