Compass mode pointing at the nearest toilet, 904 metres away and open 24/7.

A toilet’s location is only part of it: opening hours, price and how to get in matter too. Fontavio shows these where they are known.

Fontavio shows public toilets with opening hours where they are known, whether they are free or paid, and the access notes contributors have added. Filter to open now and free to see only those.

It works the same at home and abroad.

The things that matter

01

Open now

Opening hours and seasonal dates are shown where they are known, checked live against your phone’s clock. A fountain that is off during winter says so.

02

Filters that match the situation

Narrow by category, free or paid, open now, saved, and how you travel. All filters are free for everyone.

03

Compass and navigation

You can see what is closest or pick a place on the map, then follow the compass or use navigation. A home-screen widget and app shortcut open straight into the closest one, so it is one tap from a locked phone.

04

Confirmed by the people using it

Every place carries a badge for whether a person has confirmed it works. One tap confirms it, one tap reports a problem, and repeatedly wrong edits limit an account.

Look up a city before you go

Search any city and the map jumps there. These pages show samples of the available data and statistics for cities.

Toilets: common questions

Does it show whether a toilet is free?
Where the information exists, yes. You can filter the map to free places only, but it might miss places where the information is not yet available.
What about toilets inside cafes and shops?
Places marked as customers-only are shown and labelled as such, so you know upfront you are expected to buy something, distinct from a paid public toilet.
How current is the information?
Every place carries a badge for whether a person has confirmed it, or whether that confirmation is old enough to be worth double-checking. Anyone can confirm it still works, or report that it does not, with one tap each.
How do I find one that is open right now?
Filter for open now and the list keeps only the places whose recorded hours cover this moment, checked against your phone’s clock. One with no hours on record shows hours unknown and stays in the list, because unknown is not the same as closed.
Will I need a coin or a key?
Where a contributor recorded it, the listing says which: free, paid, customers-only, or needing a Euro key.
