Is the tap water safe to drink in Denmark?

Yes. Danish tap water is groundwater, and WHO and UNICEF put the share of people with safely managed drinking water at home at 99.9% in 2024.

99.9%
of people in Denmark had safely managed drinking water at home in 2024 WHO/UNICEF: from a protected source, at home, available when needed and free from contamination.

What the official figures say

Treatment is kept simple. At the waterworks the groundwater is aerated and filtered, then pumped straight out to the taps. Around 2,600 public water utilities supply more than 95% of Danes.

Why a public tap can still be different

Taps at harbours, campsites and cemeteries are sometimes service taps for boats, washing or watering. Check the sign: drikkevand means drinking water, and ikke drikkevand means it isn't.

Check the tap, then tell the next person

Use taps marked drikkevand and check the spout is clean. If you find a good one, put it on Fontavio or review it, and save the next cyclist or sailor on the coast a detour.
