Is the tap water safe to drink in Greece?

Yes, on the mainland supply. WHO and UNICEF put the share of people in Greece with safely managed drinking water at home at 96.7% in 2024.

What the official figures say

In Athens, the water company EYDAP tests raw and treated water in its own laboratories every day, and keeps watch on the network and on the four reservoirs that supply the city: Marathon, Yliki, Mornos and Evinos.

Why a public tap can still be different

Island water can be quite different from mainland water, so ask locally before you rely on a tap. Taps on beaches and at harbours may be showers or rinsing points.

Check the tap, then tell the next person

Ask around, look for a sign and check the spout. When you find a tap that's good to drink from, add it to Fontavio or review it, and say which island or town it's on for the next visitors to arrive.
