Is the tap water safe to drink on the Isle of Man?

Yes. WHO and UNICEF put safely managed drinking water on the Isle of Man at 99.9% for 2024.

99.9%
of people on the Isle of Man had safely managed drinking water at home in 2024 WHO/UNICEF: from a protected source, at home, available when needed and free from contamination.

What the official figures say

The Government Laboratory samples the public supply from people's own taps in each of the island's seven supply areas and tests it for chemical and microbiological quality, and any failure is reported. Homes on boreholes and other private supplies are sampled separately by environmental health officers.

Why a public tap can still be different

Streams and springs in the glens and on the hills are untreated, and a tap at a farm or a remote property may be on a private supply rather than the mains.

Check the tap, then tell the next person

Use taps marked for drinking and check them first. If you find one on a walk or a ride around the island, add it to Fontavio or review it.
