Is the tap water safe to drink in Lithuania?

Yes. WHO and UNICEF put safely managed drinking water in Lithuania at 96.7% for 2024, rising to 99.3% in towns and cities.

96.7%
of people in Lithuania had safely managed drinking water at home in 2024 WHO/UNICEF: from a protected source, at home, available when needed and free from contamination.

What the official figures say

Vilnius drinks nothing but groundwater, drawn from 287 deep wells between 32 and 245 metres down. It's naturally rich in iron and manganese, which 21 treatment plants remove before the water reaches the network.

Why a public tap can still be different

Water that has been sitting in old pipes can come out rusty for a moment, especially where the groundwater is high in iron. In villages, a pump may draw on a private well with no treatment at all.

Check the tap, then tell the next person

Let the tap run until the water is clear, and check the spout. When you find a good one, add it to Fontavio or review it and say how the water looked.
