Is the tap water safe to drink in Poland?

Yes, on the large public supplies. Between 2020 and 2022, about 99.9% of people served by Poland's large waterworks received water of appropriate quality, according to the chief sanitary inspectorate. WHO and UNICEF put the national share with safely managed drinking water at 88.7% for 2024.

88.7%
of people in Poland had safely managed drinking water at home in 2024 WHO/UNICEF: from a protected source, at home, available when needed and free from contamination.

What the official figures say

Those large waterworks, each producing at least 1,000 cubic metres a day or serving more than 5,000 people, supply about 70.1% of Poles. Everyone else is on a smaller local supply or a private well.

Why a public tap can still be different

Away from the cities, a tap in a village or at a holiday cottage may be on a small supply or a private well. And in any town, a public tap depends on how well its pipes are kept.

Check the tap, then tell the next person

Check for a sign and let the water run. When you find a good tap, add it to Fontavio or review it, and say whether it's in a town or out in the country.
